The goal is not to turn every measurement into a universal target. The same value can have different meaning depending on species, light source, spectrum, photoperiod, environment, sensor position and measurement method.

Our measurement approach

Different types of technical information should be clearly separated.

AquaHorti aims to distinguish what was measured, what comes from published research, what belongs to a product specification and what is practical guidance.

AquaHorti measurements

Values collected under a stated AquaHorti test setup or measurement condition should be interpreted within that setup.

Published research

Findings from external scientific or technical sources should remain connected to the species, conditions and methods used in the original research.

Practical guidance

Starting ranges and workflows can help with decisions, but they should not be presented as universal biological optima.

Product specifications

Product capabilities and functions describe the instrument itself and should remain separate from biological or application recommendations.

Why context matters

The same number does not always mean the same thing.

Measurement values become more useful when the surrounding conditions are recorded and understood.

A PPFD reading may need to be interpreted together with photoperiod, spectrum, DLI, species, growth stage, temperature, CO₂ and measurement position.

An underwater PAR value can be affected by depth, fixture settings, water clarity, aquascape, sensor position and a coral's previous light environment.

A LUX measurement describes illuminance, but it does not by itself describe spectral distribution, color temperature or spatial uniformity.

A UV reading is only meaningful when wavelength range, unit and measurement method are clear.

Measure at the relevant position Sensor placement can change the value and the decision based on that value.
Record the conditions Height, time, spectrum, environment and operating settings provide essential context.
Compare repeatably Consistent measurement methods make before-and-after comparisons more useful.
